What is apparent density? How to measure?

Apr. 16, 2024

The particle pile volume is the mass of the powder or powder briquettes divided by the apparent volume of the powder or briquettes, which is the apparent particle density. Therefore, it is related to the state of the powder, which is bulk density, tap density and compacted density.

What is apparent density? How to measure?cid=20

Bulk density varies depending on the shape and size of the filling container and the filling method. ISO and international comparisons have unified standards. When measuring, pour the particles to be measured into a funnel of a certain shape and size, open the small hole at the bottom of the funnel, and enter the cylindrical cup with a volume of (25±0.05) cm3 through the positioning block until the particles overflow from the cup. Then use a non-magnetic ruler to scrape off excess particles horizontally. After weighing, subtract the weight of the cup to get the mass m of the particles. Then you can calculate the bulk density of the particles equal to g/cm3.

Tap density measurement is to put the particles into a vibrating container and vibrate under certain conditions until the volume of the particles in the container no longer decreases. According to ISO and national standards, the vibration device is started by a cam, the amplitude is 3mm, the frequency is (250±15) times/min, and the vibration time is 12min.
